Location & Facilities
The RMHC Hospitality Cart is designed to provide comfort and practical assistance to children and their families during their hospital visits. Supporting North Australian communities, RMHC Hospitality Carts deliver a variety of services and resources at no cost to families. These include personal care and hygiene products, snacks, ready-made meals and beverages, books, magazines, educational toys, and children’s art and craft activities.
The carts operate throughout Paediatric wards (including Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Special Care Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Children’s Oncology Day Unit, Paediatric Emergency Department and the Waiting Rooms) in each hospital and are typically staffed by a team of RMHC North Australia Volunteers, and may at times also include members of the local community, staff members, or supporters who contribute their time and resources to the program.

Cart Impact
In 2023, the North Australia RMHC Hospitality Carts made a significant impact, providing 15,292 items to 4,737 families across our region. With 318 cart shifts throughout the year, we successfully expanded from our original carts in Mount Isa and Darwin to new locations in Townsville and Mackay. This growth enabled us to extend vital support to children undergoing treatment and their families, ensuring they received the care and comfort needed during challenging times. Our hospitality carts continue to be a cornerstone of our mission, bringing essential resources directly to the bedside of those who need them most.
Community Involvement
Through initiatives like ‘Cowboys in Capes’, where members of the North Queensland Cowboys graciously volunteered their time at the Townsville University Hospital, and the dedicated efforts of our Charity Partner, Queensland Country Bank, the RMHC Hospitality Cart is delivering big smiles along with the everyday essentials these families require.
